OMG- really? Another discussion of the “message” the now so-called “abusive” Edward-Bella relationship is sending to “young girls”? Fine, let’s resolve this. Who are the “young girls” we’re all worrying about? Daughters? Sisters? Good. TALK TO THEM. Discuss the books & movies, make sure to point out 1) they are FICTIONAL, 2) humans & our relationships are never perfect, 3) no male, whether 17, 117, or anywhere in between, will ever come close to being the perfect ideal they think Edward is, 4) Bella’s perceived faults/weaknesses as you see them, 5) obsessive relationships can be dangerous (and why), 6) Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are NOT Edward and Bella, they are actors playing parts. If you’re really into the subject, start a freaking book club discussion. That being done, let’s put this to REST!

Even I have to agree with that, and I’m not even a fan of Twilight

The Prize Doesn’t Always Go To The Most Deserving
Irena Sendler1910-2008A 98 year-old German woman named Irena Sendler recently died. During WWII, Irena worked in the Warsaw Ghetto as a plumbing/sewer specialist. Irena smuggled Jewish children out; infants in the bottom of the tool box she carried and older children in a burlap sack she carried in the back of her truck. She also had a dog in the back that she trained to bark when the Nazi soldiers let her in and out of the ghetto. The soldiers wanted nothing to do with the dog, and the barking covered the kids’ and infants’ noises. Irena managed to smuggle out and save 2500 children. She eventually was caught, and the Nazis broke both her legs, arms and beat her severely. Irena kept a record of the names of all the kids she smuggled out and kept them in a glass jar buried under a tree in her backyard. After the war, she tried to locate any parents that may have survived and reunited some of the families. Most had been killed. She helped those children get placement into foster family homes or adopted.Last year Irena was up for the Nobel Peace Prize. She was not selected. Al Gore won - for a slide show on Global Warming.http://www.snopes.com/politics/war/sendler.asp

I did my history project on her in Grade12, what an amazing woman! A high school in the states wrote and produced a short play about her, called Life in a Jar. They even contacted her with the help of some Polish students at the school. And they eventually went to visit her in her small appartment in Warsaw. She wasn’t a wealthy woman by any means. But she didn’t care. She was certainly an unsung hero. I still have the slide show with more info if anyone is interested

Rules for Rehearsal and Backstage

After doing Alice in Wonderland I have learned to lay out some rules for both practise and rehearsal. I try to make these rules the same as the rules that would be applied once we’re in the theatre….

The Things You Discover..

For my women’s studies paper, the topic I chose was haute couture. Now I knew that the club itself was facinating, after seeing a documentary about it quite a while ago on the CBC. But what I didn’t really know was how facinating the numerous fashion houses of Chanel, Dolce and Gabbana, Yves Saint Laurent, ect. were so facinating in themselves! Like the head designer of Chanel (Karl Lagerfeld) is facinateing person himself! I mean the way not only the people in the haute couture club worship him like a god, but anyone who’s associated with high fashion! It’s amazing! I’ve discovered that high fashion is far more than that rather expensive bag, it’s an entire world!
