organize peace of mind Life

21 December 2011

What does it really mean to be organized?

As I tidy up my room tonight, as it has gotten to the point where I can’t function in the mess, I feel overwhelmed by it. So to deal with the feeling of being overwhelmed, and to slip back into a place where I am at peace of mind, I tidy it up. And as some of my friends know first-hand I will do this at any hour of the day or night.

This has lead me to wonder, what does it actually mean to be organized in our living situation? Does it mean our homes have to be immaculate like in home magazines or Martha Stewarts’ set? Or does it mean that our homes should be in a state where we have at peace in our minds and are not overwhelmed by it all?

So my food for thought to you is, the next time you sit down and look around your bedroom/apartment/house, and you say “I/we need to get organized”  before you go all Martha Stewart (and I will seriously applaud you if you can ACTUALLY be Martha Stewart neat freak, think about what exactly does organized mean to you? When did you feel at ease? Was it when you simply took all of your summer shoes that have been cluttering up the hall closet and put them in a bin in the basement? Or was it when you simply hung up all of your clothes and made your bed? Or was it when you went all domestic goddess/god and hauled out the vacuum cleaner and then dusted the entire room? Or if you don’t really know, as this image could vary from to room, think about what is bugging you the most, and start there. Generally, it’s taking care of that one thing, that makes life SO much better.

So happy-peace of mind folks,

And in the words of Red Green:”Keep your stick on the ice”

Or Dr. Sydney Freedman on MASH “pull down your pants and slide on the ice”
