What I’m currently reading
I’ve always liked blog posts where people say what they’re reading, and say whether it’s a good read, or a horrendous piece of literature that they just want to finish, and people say what they’re reading.
So to start off I’m making my way through The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova, which is a mystery/ historical thriller I guess you could say about…in short, to answer the question is Vlad Tempish(sp?) the man who was the origin of Bram Stocker’s Dracula, still alive, and the blood sucking villian like that in Stocker’s novel, that has followers all over the world who’s soul purpose is to protect the secret.
Here’s a better summary from Goodreads.com:
Late one night, exploring her father’s library, a young woman finds an ancient book and a cache of yellowing letters addressed ominously to ‘My dear and unfortunate successor’. Her discovery plunges her into a world she never dreamed of - a labyrinth where the secrets of her father’s past and her mother’s mysterious fate connect to an evil hidden in the depths of history.
In those few quiet moments, she unwittingly assumes a quest she will discover is her birthright - a hunt for the truth about Vlad the Impaler, the medieval ruler whose barbarous reign formed the basis of the Dracula myth. Deciphering obscure signs and hidden texts, reading codes worked into the fabric of medieval monastic traditions, and evading terrifying adversaries, one woman comes ever closer to the secret of her own past and a confrontation with the very definition of evil.
I have been working on this book for a long time because I tend to get distracted with things like the next Harry Potter book release, or another book I would like to read, but I haven’t gotten tired of picking it up again. A definate reccomend so far and I’m on page 302 out of 642—enjoy vampire lovers! P.s these vampires don’t sparkle :P
